Houston Facial Rejuvenation Techniques

Dr. Newall provides non-surgical and surgical facial rejuvenation techniques such as BOTOX®, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, rhytidectomy and blepharoplasty.

Non-surgical Facial and Cosmetic Repair Techniques

Non-surgical facial rejuvenation techniques work to restore a youthful appearance to the face, particularly as the skin ages and becomes damaged by the sun and other elements.

Non-surgical techniques for facial rejuvenation include:

BOTOX® -

Botox is aa temporary, yet effective, treatment for wrinkles of the forehead, in-between the eyebrows and “crow’s feet,” the fine lines that appear around the mouth. BOTOX® is injected directly into the muscle through a small needle and produces a reversible paralysis of that muscle, which, in effect removes any wrinkling associated with that area. Muscle function and the wrinkles usually return in four to six months (two to three months for the areas near the mouth). Complications from BOTOX® are usually temporary. Dr. Newall will discuss this treatment with you to determine if it is appropriate.

Facial Chemical Peels -

Two types of chemical solutions (Phenol and TCA) cause the top layers of skin to peel away, allowing new skin cells to form and produce smoother and younger-looking skin. Local anesthesia is used and treatments can last 15 minutes to two hours. Swelling following the procedure will last a few days, and the entire recovery period lasts an average of two weeks. Patients should avoid the sun and wind for a minimum of four weeks following a chemical peel.

Collagen –

Collage is a substance which is found in the second layer of skin, acts as a support structure for the skin. As you age, stress from smiling and squinting causes collagen to break down. To replace lost collagen, injections of Purified Bovine Collagen are injected into the skin (usually takes less than an hour). The effects of collagen injections usually will last about three months.

Microdermabrasion –

This skin rejuvenation method propels microcrystals at a high rate of speed across the skin's surface, removing dead skin cells and unclogging pores. One session can be completed in less than an hour, and the results are immediate.

Cosmetic Surgery - Facial Surgical Procedures in Houston

Rhytidectomy (face lift or FaceLift)

A rhytidectomy, or face lift, is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of the forehead, eyes and cheeks, as well as improve sagging around the neck and chin. As with all surgical procedures, certain associated risks apply, and Dr. Newall will discuss each of these with you.

During the procedure, Dr. Newall will use a series of incisions to separate the skin from the fat and muscle that are contained beneath it. He will tighten the underlying muscle and membrane and remove any excess skin. Sutures are used to close the incisions. Your sutures should be ready for removal after approximately five days, but each case is different. The scalp may take additional time to heal. Dr. Newall will discuss with you a time line for returning to normal activities, but plan to take it easy for at least the first full week following surgery.

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a procedure used to remove fat and excess skin from the upper and lower eyelids to correct drooping or puffy bags that appear below your eyes. This surgery does not remove wrinkles, dark circles under your eyes or lift sagging eyebrows.

During blepharoplasty, incisions are normally made in the creases of your upper eyelids and just below the lashes of your lower eyelids. Sutures are used to close the incisions and are removed after one week. Minimal scarring following eyelid surgery lasts for about three weeks and scarring is undetectable after about six months.

Eyelid surgery is performed as outpatient surgery under general anesthesia and lasts from one to three hours. Patients usually can return to work within five to seven day and resume strenuous activities after about three weeks.
